The beauty of stripy patterns
In modern society stripy patterns don't play a major role in the decoration of our environment. At the most we decorate some 'dull' things stripy. So the national flag is often stripy, just like the parasol, the pyama and the distinguihed suit.Still in 'far away times' the stripy pattern played major role in decorational art. So in Antiquity the Egyptians embellished their graves with stripy patterns, the Greek their famous vases and the elite of the Roman Empire their splendid villa's. Also in Arabia and the Far Eeast (Japan,China) stripy patterns were deeply rooted in decorational art. In these ancient cultures stripy patterns seldom were applied in a 'straight on' way. Elements of spiralling, milling and branching were used to enlarge the visual attraction of the patterns.
